Prado – QUANTAS VEZES AO SOL ATÉ EU MORRER
Genre: Screamo, Post-Hardcore, Metalcore
Favorite Tracks: “Até Eu Arder,” “Cadela,” “Pendurados,” “Mesmo assim o sol ainda bate na minha janela”
From the start of Prado’s EP, the band’s anger is apparent. This screamo quintet from Lisbon, Portugal is full of boiling energy—a characteristic immediately heard in the opener “Até Eu Arder.” Gentle progressions are contrasted with Didi Faria and Matilde Furtado’s sharp melodies. From calming spoken word to gravelly screaming, their upfront presence gradually builds to ravishing grooves and seething riffs. The feminine rage the main vocalists express stirs throughout the EP, themes of clawing out of flawed, demeaning environments that push them down portrayed with distressed, yet courageous, lyricism. The sun itself becomes a harmful figure, but embracing its flame ensures they will fight back for another day.
Lyrical turmoil reflects the unbreakable fury. “Cadela” moves through simmering passages that boil to manic, screamo intensity. “Pendurados” and its compact runtime never lose sight of ramming energy to the brink via punchy blast beats, Faria and Furtado shrieking their lungs out. Then comes “Mesmo assim o sol ainda bate na minha janela”; its emotional weight is supercharged. Searing guitars and propulsive drums keep going until the very end, the rage unfurling in its brightest parts. Prado’s debut is nothing short of immense.
