As someone who has played in both ambitious rock bands and vaporwave-indebted electropop acts, Los Angeles producer Jordan H. Kleinman is no stranger to blurring the lines with his music. PART OF THE DEAL, his latest EP under the moniker Condor Express, is a crunchy, genre-bending solo effort that pulls from psychedelic rock, trip-hop, and a wide variety of other genres.
This Tuesday (7/26), the self-released record hits streaming services. Spanning an array of feels and textures, PART OF THE DEAL is both compact and ambitious. Tie-dyed ‘60s sensibilities commingle with tambourines and dream pop riffing on the track “On The Line,” while the title track’s phased-out drums and confident vocals bring to mind a dystopian Miami night. On “The Beach,” an echoing lyrical hook rides atop bleary basses, marrying reverbed-out top-end and a propulsive groove. While the EP can’t be pinned down, it’s tied together by sonics that wouldn’t sound out of place blaring from a tent at a tastefully rowdy festival. Listen to PART OF THE DEAL a day early at the link below.
